No Weigh

Do you find yourself staring at the scale every day...

Or sometimes multiple times per day, just willing that number to go down or be smaller?

Are you obsessing over what that dial reads?
Do you feel like you've wrapped your self worth up in that silly number?
I hear you!
It's still a constant battle I have with myself.
What's really silly is that weight fluctuates day-to-day, even hour-to-hour.
It's one thing to track your progress, it's an entirely different thing to let a number determine what kind of day we'll have.
We can drive ourselves crazy watching that number go up and down, up and down all day everyday.

Well, one of my health & wellness support groups is doing something really refreshing, it's called "No Weigh October."
Basically, we're banding together to stay off the scale for the month and give ourselves a much needed break from the scale addiction...
Not to mention the worry and stress and FRUSTRATION if that number goes up instead of down.
Here's how it works:
We record our final weight, along with bust, waist, hips, upper thigh and calf of dominant leg, and bicep of dominant arm measurements. Then, we just live our lives the rest of the month, focusing on our fasting, nutrition and activity levels and forgetting about that darn scale.
On October 31st, we will weigh and measure again to check our results.
Here are my starting weigh-in and measurements:
Weight: 131.6
Bust: 33in
Waist: 28 1/4in
Hips: 36in
Upper Thigh: 21in
Calf: 14in
Bicep: 11in
I can't wait to see my results at the end of "No Weigh." It's amazing what you can accomplish with like-minded people and the right support systems.
No weigh we go!
Carly

National Coffee Day!!

Something you should know about me, I LOVE my coffee. It gets me going every morning and gives me a pick-me-up when I really need a push to get through the day and I seriously don't function well without it.  So much so, it's kind of become a running joke with my family and friends. In fact,  my best friend, Miss Courtney , would greet me at the door in silence with a cup of coffee if I'd been up late the night before. She gets me. I'm drinking some now as I type this. When I started Intermittent Fasting, I was relieved to find that I didn't have to give up my coffee. I just had to switch to unsweetened and black, which wasn't too big of a deal, because I had completed a sugar detox a couple years before discovering IF. Through the detox, I became somewhat taste-sensitive to sugar where, depending on the food item, a little was almost too much for me anymore. As a result, my coffee was mainly just a little bit of cream anyway. It makes

Cough Tea

It’s that time of year.  The time that, to me, is worse than spring. The time that brings the fall cough!  You know the one. The one that never really goes away and you’ve had so long you’re not sure when it first appeared. It’s the same one that you don’t want to go to the doctor for because you’re positive it’s just something that has blown about with the change of seasons.  I like to call it the “allergy faker.”  Like Carly with her constant sinus fight, I have the constant cough fight. And although I always win, the shorter I have to deal with it the better.   I also have to think about the fact that I have a child and he and his friends are in and out constantly, and I’d really prefer they not share anything with me. Lord knows no parent wants to start that viscous circle of sick.  So, that’s where my favorite cough-away recipe comes in. It’s delicious, aids sleep and it’s for adults only!  Wellness Tea  and Whiskey, two new best friends.   Th

Getting Mono Meant No Caffeine Ever!

Caffeine, one word, so many meanings. Coffee, soda, tea, energy drinks, one shots, chocolate...caffeine is everywhere.  While this is a great blessing for most people, for a few of us out there it's terrible.  Especially when it's suddenly just taken away.   Welcome to my world when I was just past 18 and getting ready for freshman year of college. A little back story.  We moved from Indiana to Kansas the summer before my senior year was to start.  So, as if the life of a teenager isn't already "hard" enough, add in all new everything before what is supposed to be the best year of school ever.  You guessed it, I hated everything and everyone at this point.  Not even a month in and my appendix ruptures. I spent over a week, up to the Fourth of July, in the hospital.  Summer really was awful by that point.   First day of school, sent to principal’s office for wearing a spaghetti strap tank top and had to wear a very large ugly school mascot shirt over it.
